治濕疥浸淫久不差. 輕粉ㆍ綠礬ㆍ黃栢ㆍ硫黃各等分. 右爲末, 生麻油調, 洗瘡後塗擦. 《局方》

Translation

Treats weeping scabies that seeps and spreads and has long failed to heal. Calomel, green vitriol, phellodendron and sulphur, equal parts of each. Powder them, stir the powder into raw sesame oil, and after washing the sore smear it on and rub it in. — Hwaje Gukbang 局方 (Donguibogam · Jechang)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Four drugs in equal parts, two of them minerals that dry a weeping surface, one an astringent bark and one sulphur. The name says what is distinctive: 油調, stirred into oil, and the leaf is careful that the sore is washed before the paste goes on. Of the four, sulphur is the one that works. Precipitated sulphur in an ointment base is still a recognised scabicide, used where permethrin cannot be — in infants and in pregnancy — and a sulphur-and-oil rub on weeping scabies is a treatment with a real mechanism behind it. Green vitriol is ferrous sulphate, an astringent that would dry the exudate. **Contains calomel, which is mercury. This must not be prepared as written.** The mercury adds nothing that the sulphur does not do and is absorbed through the excoriated skin this formula is meant for. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
