Translation

Treats sores on the face, or a red-purple nose, and wind and flour pimples where no medicine has answered. Raw sulphur, angelica dahurica, trichosanthes root and calomel half a don each; three whole scorpions; five cicada sloughs; seven blister beetles with wings and feet removed. Powder them; first melt sesame oil and beeswax together as for a face oil, take it off the fire and stir the powder in evenly. Take a little at a time, apply to the face at bedtime after washing, and keep it from the eyes. In a few days the redness disperses of itself, and for wind and flour pimples one night shows the effect. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Myeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

風刺粉刺 — wind pimples and flour pimples, the tradition's two names for acne. Sulphur applied overnight is still a treatment for it, though nothing else in the formula should go near a face. **Contains calomel, scorpion and blister beetle, all toxic and absorbed through the skin. This must not be prepared.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
