Translation

Treats wind tinea and weeping sores. Coptis, lead carbonate, phellodendron, litharge and calcined alum 5 don each, calomel, dragon bone and calamine 5 pun each. Powder them and dust them on dry, or stir the powder into oil and smear it on. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Jechang)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A drying powder built on the two bitter yellow barks and five minerals, with the two dosages a hundredfold apart in intent: 5 don each of the bulk drying drugs, 5 pun each of the three fine powders. Dragon bone and calamine are mild astringent desiccants, and calamine — zinc carbonate — is the one drug here that is still in the pharmacy, for exactly this purpose. The leaf offers both routes, dry dusting or an oil paste, which is a real distinction: a weeping 濕瘡 is dusted, a dry scaling 癬 is better served by the oil. **Contains calomel, which is mercury, and lead carbonate and litharge, which are lead. This must not be prepared.** Three of the eight drugs are heavy-metal poisons absorbed through inflamed skin, and the powder is meant to be dusted over a broad weeping surface. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
