Translation

A winter delivery with cold qi entering the birth gate, distending pain below the navel that cannot bear the hand — this is cold mounting. Mutton 4 nyang; angelica and tangerine peel 2 nyang each; fresh ginger 1 nyang. Cut up, decoct in 3 bowls of water and 1 cup of wine down to 1 bowl, strain off the dregs, and take warm in two doses. — Jeongjeon 正傳 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Zhongjing's Danggwisaenggangyangyuk-tang with tangerine peel added, and it is food as much as medicine — four nyang of mutton against four medicinals. 冬月解産 — a winter delivery — names the circumstance, and the whole postpartum regimen of 1.31 turns on keeping the newly delivered woman warm. **Severe abdominal pain after delivery that cannot bear touch requires assessment; sepsis and haemorrhage must be excluded.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
