Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治産後淋. 白茅根四兩, 白茯苓二兩, 瞿麥ㆍ葵子ㆍ人參各一兩, 蒲黃ㆍ桃膠ㆍ滑石ㆍ甘草各五錢, 紫貝五箇, 石首魚頭中石十六箇. 右爲末, 每二錢, 木通湯調下, 或爲麄末三錢, 燈心同煎服, 亦可. 《三因》

Translation

Treats urinary dribbling after delivery. Imperata root 4 nyang; white poria 2 nyang; dianthus, malva seed and ginseng 1 nyang each; cattail pollen, peach tree gum, talc and licorice 5 don each; purple cowrie shell five; the stones from the head of the yellow croaker sixteen. Powder them and take 2 don at a time stirred into akebia decoction; or grind coarsely and take 3 don decocted with juncus, which will also serve. — Samin 三因 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

石首魚頭中石 — the stones in the head of the yellow croaker — are otoliths, and they are used here for the same reason as the cowrie shell: mineral substances held to dissolve what has hardened in the water passages. Peach tree gum is mucilaginous and makes the passage slippery, the same principle the obstructed labour formulas at 1.22 work on. **Urinary infection after delivery requires antibiotic treatment.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
