Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治産後左脇脹悶一塊痛, 臥不着席. 香附(醋炒) 二兩, 當歸ㆍ川芎ㆍ白芍藥(酒炒)ㆍ陳皮ㆍ半夏(油炒)ㆍ白朮(炒)ㆍ靑皮(油炒)ㆍ神麴(炒)ㆍ蘿葍子(炒)ㆍ牡丹皮ㆍ紅花ㆍ白茯苓各一兩, 柴胡(酒炒)ㆍ桃仁(炒) 各八錢, 草龍膽(酒洗) 六錢, 三稜ㆍ蓬朮(幷醋炒) 各五錢. 右爲末, 酒糊和丸梧子大, 空心白湯下百丸. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Treats the left ribside after delivery distended and oppressed with a lump that pains, so that the patient cannot lie flat on the bed. Cyperus (vinegar-fried) 2 nyang; angelica, chuanxiong, white peony (wine-fried), tangerine peel, pinellia (oil-fried), white atractylodes (stir-fried), green tangerine peel (oil-fried), medicated leaven (stir-fried), radish seed (stir-fried), moutan bark, safflower and white poria 1 nyang each; bupleurum (wine-fried) and peach kernel (stir-fried) 8 don each; gentian (wine-washed) 6 don; sparganium and curcuma (both vinegar-fried) 5 don each. Powder them, make pills with wine paste the size of a firmiana seed, and take a hundred on an empty stomach with plain hot water. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Left ribside and right ribside get different formulas — this one and the next — and the pairing is the section's point. Left is the liver's side and gets bupleurum and gentian; right is the lung and stomach's and gets the qi-movers.
