Translation

Treats the yang pattern of cold damage, with the body greatly hot and yet no wish to come near clothing. Cinnamon twig and peony, 3 don each; scutellaria, 2 don; licorice, 1 don. Cut up, make one packet, add three slices of ginger and two jujubes, and decoct in water. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Han)

Clinical commentary 臨床

One of a matched pair, and the pair is the chapter's neatest piece of diagnostic reasoning. The patient is burning hot: does he want his clothes on or off? Off, and the heat is true heat — this formula, with scutellaria to cool. On, and the heat is false, a cold interior driving heat to the surface — the yin version, with dried ginger to warm. Both are the same cinnamon-twig base. Asking a febrile patient whether he wants covering is still one of the quickest ways to tell a genuine fever from the chill of circulatory shutdown, and no instrument is needed for it. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
