Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治法同上. 萆麻子十四粒(去殼), 朱砂ㆍ雄黃各一錢半, 蛇蛻一條(燒). 右爲末, 漿水飯和丸彈子大, 臨用先以椒湯淋渫臍下, 次安藥一丸於臍中, 以蠟紙覆上, 以帛繫定, 須臾生下, 急取去藥. 《易老》

Translation

Treated as above. Castor seed fourteen, shelled; cinnabar and realgar 1 don 5 pun each; one snake slough, burnt. Powder them, bind with fermented millet water and rice into pills the size of a bullet; when it is to be used, first pour a zanthoxylum decoction over the lower abdomen, then set one pill at the navel, cover it with waxed paper and fasten it with a cloth. In a moment the birth comes down, and the medicine is quickly taken away. — Yeokro 易老 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

先以椒湯淋渫 — first pour a zanthoxylum decoction over the lower abdomen — warms the skin before the paste is applied, which does increase absorption. The waxed paper and cloth are an occlusive dressing. 急取去藥, the medicine quickly taken away, is the same instruction as the three formulas above and for the same reason. **Contains cinnabar, realgar and castor seed, all toxic and all absorbed through skin.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
