Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治寒疝. 黑丑<span class='sochu'>頭末</span> 一錢, 茴香二錢半, 加木香一錢. 右末, 每二錢, 薑湯調下. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Treats cold mounting. Black morning glory seed <span class='sochu'>first powder</span> 1 don; fennel 2 don 5 pun; add costus 1 don. Powder them and take 2 don at a dose, stirred into ginger decoction. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Ha)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The section's smallest formula and its only warm one. Three medicinals, with the morning glory seed at a single don against two and a half of fennel — the proportions of the chapter reversed. 禹功, Yu's achievement, is named for Yu the Great, who controlled the floods by channelling rather than damming. The name is used across the tradition for formulas that lead water out by a passage rather than forcing it. Cold mounting is groin pain with cold, and the formula is warming with just enough purgative to move what has gathered. **Contains a purgative.
