Translation

Treats sudden stroke with loss of consciousness, the jaw clenched and the qi blocked. Asarum, gleditsia pod, mint and realgar, 1 don each. Powder; blow a little into the nose each time. If there is sneezing the case can be treated; if there is no sneezing it cannot. One version: arisaema, pinellia and gleditsia pod in equal parts, powdered and used by the method above, also called Tonggwan-san. — Uibang Yuchwi 得效 · Uihak Jeonggam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Pung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The same sneezing test as Tongjeong-san, and here it is the whole of the prognosis: sneeze and the case is treatable, do not sneeze and it is not. Asarum and gleditsia pod are the sternutatories; realgar is arsenic sulphide and does nothing but add danger, and it is the reason to prefer the Jeonggam's three-drug variant given in the same entry. Insufflation of a powder into the nose of an unconscious patient also risks aspiration, which is the real objection to the whole method. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
