Translation

Treats blood entering the afterbirth after birth, so that it distends and fills and surges against the heart, the afterbirth long undelivered and the case grown critical. Blast-fried aconite 5 don; moutan bark and dry-fried lacquer, 1 nyang each. Powder the above; take a doe of vinegar with 1 nyang of powdered rhubarb stirred in, simmer it into a paste, and bind pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; take 50 pills with wine. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The name states the stakes — a formula for the hour after birth when the afterbirth has not come and the blood pooling behind it has begun to press upward. Aconite drives, moutan and lacquer break what has congealed, and the rhubarb is cooked into the vinegar itself rather than added dry. The chapter's most urgent prescription, and the one most thoroughly superseded by modern obstetric care. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
