Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治伏暑氣欲絶. 半夏八兩, 赤茯苓ㆍ生甘草各四兩. 右以醋二升半煮半夏, 醋盡熬乾. 右爲末, 以薑汁糊和丸梧子大, 每服五十丸, 熟水呑下, 藥下卽甦. 《海藏》

Translation

Treats latent summerheat with the qi about to be cut off. Pinellia, 8 nyang; red poria and raw licorice, 4 nyang each. Boil the pinellia in 2 seung 5 hop of vinegar until the vinegar is gone, then dry it down. Powder, make pills the size of a paulownia seed with ginger-juice paste, and swallow fifty a dose with boiled water; as soon as the medicine goes down the patient revives. — Haejang 海藏 (Donguibogam · Seo)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three drugs and the whole of the preparation is in the first: eight nyang of pinellia boiled in vinegar until the vinegar is gone. Acid hydrolysis is in fact one of the processes that reduces pinellia's irritant content, so the method is doing real work, and the ginger-juice paste that binds the pills adds the usual corrective. What the formula treats is latent summerheat with the qi failing — a patient collapsed after days of heat rather than at the moment of exposure — and pinellia with poria is the tradition's answer when the collapse comes with vomiting and phlegm.
