治産後敗血入肺, 面黑發喘欲死者. 蘇木二兩剉, 水二椀煎至一椀, 調人參細末二錢服之. 《雲岐》
Translation
Treats spoiled blood entering the lung after delivery, the face black and the patient panting and near death. Sappan 2 nyang cut up, reduced from 2 bowls of water to 1, with 2 don of finely powdered ginseng stirred in and taken. — Ungi 雲岐 (Donguibogam · Buin)
Clinical commentary 臨床
面黑發喘欲死 — the face black, panting, near death — is cyanosis with acute breathlessness, and the chapter attributes it to blood reaching the lung. That is, in its own terms, correct.
Two medicinals: sappan to break the stagnant blood, ginseng to hold the collapsing qi. The pairing of a strong blood-mover with a strong supplement is what this section reaches for wherever the case is sudden and grave.
