Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治産後浮腫. 當歸一兩, 桂心ㆍ赤芍藥各五錢, 沒藥ㆍ琥珀ㆍ甘草各二錢, 細辛ㆍ麝香各一錢. 右爲末, 每一錢, 溫酒入薑汁調服. 《良方》

Translation

Treats puffy swelling after birth. Korean angelica 1 nyang; cinnamon heart and red peony, 5 don each; myrrh, amber, and licorice, 2 don each; asarum and musk, 1 don each. Powder the above; take 1 don stirred into warm wine with ginger juice added. — Yangbang 良方 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The postpartum swelling formula that treats blood rather than water — no poria, no alisma, no draining agents at all. Its reasoning is that after a birth the swelling comes from blood that has not moved on, so angelica and cinnamon heart move it and myrrh and amber break what has settled.
