Translation

Treats the stomach malaria. Magnolia bark, 2 don; mume flesh, pinellia, green tangerine peel and lesser galangal, 1 don each; tsaoko and licorice, 5 fun each. Cut them up and make one packet, three slices of ginger and two jujubes, decoct and take. — Deukhyo 得效 (Donguibogam · Haehak)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Called the minor Cheongpi, and the name is apt only in part: it keeps the green tangerine peel, magnolia bark, pinellia and tsaoko of the larger formula but drops bupleurum, scutellaria, atractylodes and poria entirely and puts mume flesh and lesser galangal in their place. What is left has no cooling drug at all. It is a warm, aromatic, stagnation-moving formula with magnolia bark doubled at the head of it. That makes it the right alternative where Cheongpi-eum would be too cold — the stomach malaria the chapter describes as good hunger with inability to eat, propping fullness after eating, and attacks that come every day. Mume is the chapter's recurring astringent in this disease and appears here beside lesser galangal rather than beside dichroa, so the formula settles the stomach without any attempt to break the paroxysm. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
