Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治陽毒ㆍ熱毒發癍如錦紋. 黃連ㆍ石膏ㆍ知母ㆍ柴胡ㆍ玄參ㆍ生地黃ㆍ梔子ㆍ犀角ㆍ靑黛各一錢, 人參ㆍ甘草各五分. 右剉作一貼, 薑一片ㆍ棗二枚, 煎入苦酒一匙服. 《入門》

Translation

Treats yang-toxin and heat-toxin macular eruption patterned like brocade. Coptis, gypsum, anemarrhena, bupleurum, scrophularia, raw rehmannia, gardenia, rhinoceros horn and indigo 1 don each; ginseng and licorice 5 pun each. Cut up as one packet with 1 slice of ginger and 2 jujubes, decoct, and take with a spoonful of vinegar stirred in. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Pi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Nine cold drugs with ginseng and licorice held under them, which is the Immun's way of clearing a brocade-patterned rash without emptying the patient. Indigo and rhinoceros horn are the two that act on the blood itself; the spoonful of vinegar added at the end is to gather the rising heat back down. **Rhinoceros horn comes from a CITES-listed species and cannot lawfully be traded; water buffalo horn is used in its place.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
