Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治發癍. 犀角(鎊) 一錢, 升麻二錢, 黃芩一錢半, 香附子ㆍ玄參各一錢, 人參五分, 甘草三分. 右剉作一貼, 加大靑一錢, 水煎服. 《回春》

Translation

Treats macular eruption. Rhinoceros horn filed to shavings 1 don; cimicifuga 2 don; scutellaria 1 don 5 pun; cyperus and scrophularia 1 don each; ginseng 5 pun; licorice 3 pun. Cut up as one packet, add isatis 1 don, and decoct in water. — Manbyeong Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · Pi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Cimicifuga at twice the horn's weight, which tells you what the Hoechun thought was doing the work — the rash is to be vented outward and upward, not merely cooled. Cyperus is the surprise in a blood-cooling formula and is there for the oppression that goes with the eruption. **Rhinoceros horn comes from a CITES-listed species and cannot lawfully be traded; water buffalo horn is used in its place.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
