Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治一切氣痛不可忍. 甘草二兩, 沒藥ㆍ血竭ㆍ沈香ㆍ麝香ㆍ朱砂各一兩, 木香五錢. 右爲末, 熬甘草作膏, 搜和藥末, 丸如芡實大, 每一丸, 薑鹽湯嚼下. 血氣痛, 醋湯下. 《直指》

Translation

Treats all qi pain that cannot be borne. Licorice 2 nyang; myrrh, dragon's blood, aloeswood, musk and cinnabar 1 nyang each; costus 5 don. Powder them, boil the licorice to a paste, knead the powder into it, and make pills the size of a euryale seed; take one at a time chewed and swallowed with ginger-and-salt decoction. For blood-and-qi pain, send down with vinegar decoction. — Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · Gi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Musk at a full nyang — the chapter's most expensive formula, and its strongest aromatic. Myrrh and dragon's blood are for the blood; aloeswood and musk for the qi; the cinnabar is there to settle the spirit of a patient in pain past bearing. **Contains musk, CITES Appendix I and prohibited in trade, and cinnabar, which is mercury sulfide.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
