Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治勞瘵, 停濕, 二陽病, 熱鬱. 黑丑<span class='sochu'>頭末</span>ㆍ滑石各四兩, 大黃二兩, 黃芩一兩, 黃連ㆍ川芎ㆍ薄荷各半兩. 劑法服法, 同導水丸. 《綱目》

Translation

Treats taxation consumption, standing damp, the two yang disease and depressed heat. Black morning glory seed <span class='sochu'>first powder</span> and talc 4 nyang each; rhubarb 2 nyang; scutellaria 1 nyang; coptis, chuanxiong and mint half a nyang each. The method of preparing and taking is the same as for Conduct Water Pill. — Uihak Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · Ha)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Dosu-hwan with three medicinals added, and the three are all light and upward-moving — coptis, chuanxiong and mint. In a formula that drives downward with such force they are there to keep the head clear while the bowel opens. 二陽病 is the Neijing's term the Internal Damage chapter glosses at 1.10.3: disease of the two yang arising in heart and spleen. That this purgative is offered for it, alongside taxation consumption, shows how wide the chapter's reading of damp heat was. **A drastic purgative, and the indication here — taxation consumption — names a depleted patient.
