Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治骨蒸勞熱, 久而不痊, 三服除根. 柴胡ㆍ前胡ㆍ烏梅ㆍ胡黃連各二錢. 右剉, 作一貼, 取童尿二盞, 猪膽一枚, 猪脊髓一條, 韭白半錢, 煎至一盞, 去滓服. 《丹心》此劫劑也. 胃虛者, 量用之. 《丹心》

Translation

Treats steaming bone with taxation heat that has lasted long without recovery; three doses remove it at the root. Bupleurum, peucedanum, mume and picrorhiza 2 don each. Cut up, make one packet; take 2 jan of child's urine, one pig's gallbladder, one length of pig's spinal marrow and half a don of scallion-leek white, decoct down to 1 jan, strain off the dregs and take. This is a plundering preparation; where the stomach is vacuous, use it in measure. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Hwa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

此劫劑也 — this is a plundering preparation — is Danxi's own warning, and 胃虛者, 量用之 is the qualification: in a weak stomach, measure the dose. The vehicle is what makes it forceful. Child's urine, pig's gallbladder and spinal marrow are all cold and heavy and were held to draw heat out of the bones where plant medicinals could not reach. Three of the four medicinals are ordinary; the carrier is not. **Ingesting urine or raw animal tissue carries a serious infection risk.
