Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治骨蒸, 潮熱咳嗽. 貝母ㆍ前胡ㆍ知母ㆍ杏仁ㆍ柴胡各等分, 團魚二箇鱉也. 右藥同團魚煮, 魚熟提起, 去頭取肉連汁食之. 却將前藥焙乾爲末, 就用團魚裙甲及骨, 更煮汁一盞, 和藥爲丸梧子大, 煎黃芪湯方見虛勞呑下. 病安, 仍服黃芪益損湯方見虛勞調理. 《得效》

Translation

Treats steaming bone with tidal fever and cough. Fritillaria, peucedanum, anemarrhena, apricot kernel and bupleurum in equal parts; two soft-shelled turtles that is, the turtle. Boil the medicines together with the turtles; when the turtle is cooked lift it out, remove the head, take the flesh and eat it with the broth. Then dry-roast the foregoing medicines and powder them; take the turtle's skirt, shell and bones and boil them again for 1 jan of liquor, mix it with the powder and make pills the size of a firmiana seed, taken down with a decoction of Astragalus Decoction formula in the Vacuity Taxation chapter. When the disease is settled, continue with Astragalus Boost the Detriment Decoction formula in the Vacuity Taxation chapter to put things in order. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Hwa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The whole animal is used twice — the flesh eaten as food with the broth, then the shell, skirt and bones boiled again to bind the pills. Nothing is discarded. 骨蒸, steaming bone, with tidal fever and cough is pulmonary tuberculosis, and this is the chapter's most substantial answer to it: a nourishing food course rather than a course of medicine.
