Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治夜分潮熱. 四物湯本方, 加黃連ㆍ胡黃連各等分. 右剉, 同煎服. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Treats tidal fever arising in the night watches. The base formula of Four Substances Decoction with coptis and picrorhiza added in equal parts. Cut up, decoct together and take. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Hwa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The two coptises of the name are different plants — 黃連 and 胡黃連 — and they divide the work: coptis clears the heart and stomach, picrorhiza clears the bones. Night fever treated with a blood formula follows the section's rule at 5.8: heat by day belongs to the qi aspect and heat by night to the blood, and Sahyeol-tang above applies the same reasoning with different medicinals. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
