Clinical commentary 臨床

Minor Bupleurum Decoction with cinnamon twig added and both ginseng and peony dropped. Bupleurum carries far more weight here than in Sosiho-tang and the licorice falls to 4 fun, so the formula is leaner and more sharply pointed at the alternation itself. The chapter sets it beside Sihogyeji-tang as one of the two soyang prescriptions, and the Bogam's own verdict is simply 極驗 — thoroughly proven. The reasoning is visible in the dose ladder. Bupleurum and scutellaria hold the half-exterior half-interior ground where the alternation of cold and heat is generated, and cinnamon twig at 2 don reaches the surface that each paroxysm re-opens. The two jujubes and three slices of ginger are all that is left of Minor Bupleurum's supplementing side. **Raw pinellia is toxic and must be properly processed before use.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
