Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治中焦有熱, 頭目昏重, 咽喉腫痛, 口舌生瘡, 五心煩熱, 便尿秘澁. 麻黃ㆍ當歸ㆍ大黃ㆍ荊芥穗ㆍ赤芍藥ㆍ甘草各一錢, 白朮五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薄荷七葉, 水煎服. 《直指》

Translation

Treats heat in the middle burner: head and eyes clouded and heavy, throat swollen and painful, sores arising on mouth and tongue, vexing heat of the five hearts, stool and urine blocked and rough. Ephedra, Korean angelica, rhubarb, schizonepeta spikes, red peony, and licorice, 1 don each; white atractylodes 0.5 don. Cut the above, make one packet, add 7 mint leaves, decoct in water and take. — Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · Hwa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The middle burner's heat given two exits at once — ephedra and schizonepeta opening the sweat door while rhubarb opens the lower gate, angelica and peony guarding the Blood between them.
