Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治同上. 黑丑頭末 四兩, 大黃煨 二兩, 靑皮ㆍ陳皮ㆍ蒼朮ㆍ當歸各一兩. 右爲末, 煮蘿葍硏和丸梧子大. 溫水下五十丸. 《綱目》

Translation

Treats the same as above. Black morning glory seed first powder 4 nyang; rhubarb roasted in ashes 2 nyang; green tangerine peel, tangerine peel, atractylodes lancea and angelica 1 nyang each. Powder them, boil radish and grind it to bind the pills the size of a firmiana seed. Take fifty down with warm water. — Uihak Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · Ha)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Angelica in a purgative is the detail to note. It moistens and nourishes blood, and its presence here means the formula was meant for a patient who could not simply be emptied. Boiled radish as the binder recurs from Jeonjin-hwan at the head of the section. Radish moves qi downward and is held to temper the morning glory seed. **Contains two purgatives.
