Translation

Or take the gardenia kernels, parch them black, powder them, make pills with wheat-flour paste and take them: it is called Yugeum-hwan. If they are made into pills with honey, it is called Sanchi-hwan. It is also able to remove vexing heat of the heart and chest. — Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Hwa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The honey-bound twin of Yugeum-hwan, and the only thing separating them. 心胸煩熱, vexing heat of the heart and chest, is the complaint the honey version is given for, and the moistening binder is why: a dry, vexed patient is given the pill that carries some moisture with it. Gardenia remains the reference drug for restless heat in Korean and Chinese practice. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
