Translation

Treats stomach vacuity with vomiting, where neither gruel nor medicine stays down. Patchouli, ginseng, tangerine peel and pinellia, 2 don each. Cut up, make one packet, and decoct with three slices of ginger. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Guto)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Four drugs at a double dose each, and three of them are the chapter's own stated mainstays — 2.3 says that pinellia, tangerine peel and ginger are the chief drugs for a vomiting patient. Ginseng is the fourth because the indication is vacuity, and 粥藥不停, neither gruel nor medicine staying down, is the practical problem the small number of drugs answers: the fewer things in the cup the better the chance of keeping it down. **Contains pinellia, which is toxic in the raw state and must be properly processed before use.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
