Translation

Treats the eye injured by offending the earth. Cinnabar, realgar and borax in equal parts. Grind fine, mix with breast milk and spread it in a bowl; invert the bowl over the ground and burn mugwort to smoke it until it turns yellow; keep it in the bowl. For use, thin a little with sesame oil and dot it at the corner of the eye. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Smoked over burning mugwort in an inverted bowl until the paste turns yellow — a colour change used as the endpoint, which means something was actually happening to the mixture. Everything in it is a sulphide or a salt, and two of the three are poisons. **Contains cinnabar and realgar, placed on the eye. This must not be prepared.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
