Translation

Removes the accumulated heat of the triple burner and drains the fire of the five viscera. Scutellaria, coptis, and phellodendron, in equal parts. Powder the above and bind with steamed cake into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; take 50–70 pills with plain boiled water on an empty stomach. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Hwa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The three bitter siblings, one per floor — scutellaria for the upper burner, coptis for the middle, phellodendron for the lower — at perfectly equal rank. The name is the chapter's paradox again: a pill of three drainers called the Three Supplements, because in fire's economy every quenching is a deposit. Hwangryeonhaedok-tang minus its gardenia, in pill form for the long campaign. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
