Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治眼被撞打腫痛. 生乾地黃ㆍ川芎ㆍ羚羊角ㆍ大黃ㆍ赤芍藥ㆍ枳殼ㆍ木香各一錢. 右剉作一貼, 水煎, 食後服. 《類聚》

Translation

Treats the eye struck by a blow with swelling and pain. Dried raw rehmannia, chuanxiong, antelope horn, rhubarb, red peony, bitter orange and saussurea 1 don each. Cut up as one packet, decoct in water, and take after food. — Uibang Yuchwi 類聚 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Seven medicinals in equal weight for a blunt injury, and the logic is the standard one for trauma anywhere in this medicine: move the static blood and drain it downward. Rhubarb and saussurea together are what carry it out; the antelope horn is for the heat that follows a bruise in so vascular a place. **Antelope horn comes from a CITES-listed species and cannot lawfully be traded; goat horn is used in its place.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
