Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治痞滿, 脹滿, 穀脹, 氣脹. 蓽澄茄ㆍ白豆蔲ㆍ縮砂ㆍ靑皮ㆍ蘿葍子ㆍ木香ㆍ陳皮各七錢半, 肉豆蔲ㆍ茴香ㆍ桂皮ㆍ丁香各三錢七分半. 右爲末, 麪糊和丸梧子大. 陳皮湯下三五十丸. 《直指》

Translation

Treats glomus fullness, distension and fullness, grain distension and qi distension. Cubeb, round cardamom, amomum, green tangerine peel, radish seed, costus and tangerine peel 7.5 don each; nutmeg, fennel, cinnamon bark and clove 3 don 7.5 pun each. Powder them, make pills with wheat paste the size of a firmiana seed, and take thirty to fifty down with a decoction of tangerine peel. — Injae Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · Changman)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Eleven aromatics in a clean two-to-one ratio and nothing else — no purgative, no mineral, no blood medicinal. It closes the general list as the mildest entry on it, for distension that is cold and stagnant rather than bound or full. Cubeb gives the formula its name and is registered in this database for the first time from this chapter. It is warm and acrid and belongs with the pepper group, which is why it heads a prescription otherwise built on cardamoms. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
