Translation

Treats all patterns of wind with vacuity; dispels wind, harmonizes the qi and quickens the blood, with great and spirit-like effect. For when the qi and blood are at peace and the construction and defence are regulated and smooth, the wind pattern departs of itself. White peony, 1 don 2 fun; astragalus, 8 fun; atractylodes, 6 fun; poria spirit and pinellia, 5 fun each; aconite, ginseng, ephedra, scutellaria, stephania, cyperus, apricot kernel, chuanxiong, tangkuei, tangerine peel, saposhnikovia, cassia bark, dried ginger, cooked rehmannia, raw dried rehmannia and licorice, 4 fun each; aquilaria, lindera and aconite kusnezoffii, 3 fun each. Cut up, make one packet, add three slices of ginger and two jujubes, and decoct in water. Of the above, eight drugs dispel wind, eight harmonize the qi and eight quicken the blood. — Uibang Yuchwi 得效 (Donguibogam · Pung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A formula that explains its own architecture, which is rare and worth having: twenty-four drugs in three groups of eight, one group for wind, one for qi, one for blood. The stated principle is the whole Jin-Yuan correction in a sentence — when the qi and blood are at peace the wind pattern departs of itself — and the prescription follows it literally rather than attacking the wind. In practice twenty-four drugs at four fun each is homeopathically thin, and the formula is more interesting as a statement of doctrine than as a medicine. Aconite and aconite kusnezoffii both appear, in small amounts but together. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
