Five Beasts and Three Caskets Pill

The five powdered animals are the Five Beasts. Separately, one aconite is peeled and hollowed at the center and filled with 1 nyang of finely powdered cinnabar; one chaenomeles is peeled and hollowed and the aconite set inside it, the aconite powder covering the opening — these are the Three Caskets. The caskets are set upright in a porcelain crock and steamed in a double boiler until thoroughly soft, then taken out and mixed with the Five Beasts powder and pounded into pills the size of euryale seeds, dissolved down in chaenomeles wine. Dragon's blood is also called Girin-gal. **Note on modern practice: cinnabar is a mercury sulfide and is omitted; tiger bone is CITES Appendix I and is substituted or omitted; aconite is a regulated toxic medicinal.**

Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑
治肝腎不足, 兩脚痿軟. 鹿茸(酥灸)ㆍ血竭ㆍ虎脛骨(酥灸)ㆍ牛膝(酒浸)ㆍ金毛狗脊(燎去毛) 各一兩, 爲末, 卽五獸也. 另用附子一箇去皮, 剜去中心, 入辰砂細末一兩塡滿. 又用木瓜一枚去皮, 剜去中心, 入附子於內, 以附子末盖口, 卽三匱也. 却以三匱正坐於磁缸內, 重湯蒸至極爛, 取出和五獸末, 搗丸芡實大, 木瓜酒化下. 血竭一名麒麟竭. 《澹寮》
Translation
Treats Liver and Kidney insufficient with both legs wilting and soft. Butter-roasted deer antler, dragon's blood resin, butter-roasted tiger shin bone, wine-steeped achyranthes, and cibotium singed to remove the hairs, 1 nyang each, powdered — these are the Five Beasts. Separately, take one aconite, peel it and hollow out the center, and fill it with 1 nyang of finely powdered cinnabar. Take one chaenomeles, peel it and hollow out the center, put the aconite inside, and cover the opening with the aconite powder — these are the Three Caskets. Set the caskets upright in a porcelain crock and steam in a double boiler until thoroughly soft; take them out, mix with the Five Beasts powder, and pound into pills the size of euryale seeds, dissolved down in chaenomeles wine.
