Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治蛔厥, 心腹痛. 烏梅十五箇, 黃連七錢半, 當歸ㆍ川椒ㆍ細辛ㆍ附子(炮)ㆍ桂心ㆍ人參ㆍ黃栢各三錢. 右爲末, 醋浸烏梅取肉, 和藥末搗極令勻, 丸如梧子, 米飮下一二十丸. 《得效》

Translation

Treats roundworm reversal with pain of heart and abdomen. Mume 15; coptis 7 don 5 pun; angelica, Sichuan pepper, asarum, aconite (blast-fried), cinnamon heartwood, ginseng and phellodendron 3 don each. Powder them; steep the mume in vinegar, take the flesh, mix it with the powder and pound until thoroughly even; make pills the size of a firmiana seed and take ten to twenty with rice water. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Chung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Zhongjing's formula from the Cold Damage treatise, and the tradition's one indispensable worm medicine. The logic is 14.23: worms grow still at sour, settle at bitter, and bury their heads at acrid — so mume and vinegar for the sour, coptis and phellodendron for the bitter, pepper and asarum for the acrid, with aconite and cinnamon to warm the cold stomach that let them rise. **Contains aconite, which is toxic.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
