Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑
吐之重劑. 藜蘆 五錢, 明礬 二錢, 猪牙皂角ㆍ綠礬ㆍ赤小豆 各一錢. 右末, 每一錢, 漿水調下. 《丹心》
Translation
A heavy preparation for vomiting. Black false hellebore root 5 don; clear alum 2 don; gleditsia, green vitriol and adzuki bean 1 don each. Powder them and take 1 don at a dose stirred into fermented millet water. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · To)
Clinical commentary 臨床
重劑 against the 輕劑 of the two preparations above, and the chapter sets them side by side so the practitioner can choose by force. Black false hellebore root leads here where melon stalk leads elsewhere, and it is the harsher of the two.
綠礬, green vitriol, is ferrous sulfate. It is emetic in quantity and the Jaundice chapter uses it at 5.11 for a different purpose.
**Contains black false hellebore root, which is toxic and causes cardiac arrhythmia and hypotension. Green vitriol in quantity causes severe gastrointestinal injury. This must not be prepared or taken.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
