Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治諸疝. 川楝肉五兩. 將一兩, 斑猫三箇同炒; 一兩, 茴香三錢ㆍ鹽五分同炒; 一兩, 破故紙三錢同炒; 一兩, 黑丑三錢同炒; 一兩, 蘿蔔子一錢同炒. 揀去同炒藥, 只留茴香ㆍ破故紙ㆍ川楝肉, 爲末, 酒糊和丸梧子大, 溫酒下五十丸. 《入門》

Translation

Treats all the mountings. Toosendan flesh 5 nyang. Fry one nyang with three blister beetles; one nyang with fennel 3 don and salt 5 pun; one nyang with psoralea 3 don; one nyang with black morning-glory seed 3 don; one nyang with radish seed 1 don. Pick out the adjuvants, keeping only the fennel, the psoralea and the toosendan flesh; powder, bind with a wine-and-flour paste into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds, and take fifty with warm wine. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Jeoneum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The smallest of the three fried-toosendan formulas and the one most likely to have been made: a fifth of the weight, three beetles instead of forty-nine, and only two adjuvants kept. Set beside the four-frying pill it shows the method being pared back toward something a household could manage. **Blister beetle is fried with the medicine and cantharidin transfers to it.
