Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治婦人經水不調, 久無子. (四製)香附子一斤, (淨)熟艾四兩, 用醋一椀煮至乾, 入石臼內擣爛, 捏作餠子, 於新瓦上焙乾. 入白茯苓ㆍ當歸ㆍ人參ㆍ川芎ㆍ熟地黃ㆍ京墨(火煆紅醋淬) 各一兩, 木香五錢. 右爲末, 醋糊和丸梧子大, 溫酒呑下七八十丸. 《入門》

Translation

Treats women whose menses are irregular and who have long been without child. Cyperus processed four ways, 1 geun; cleaned prepared mugwort 4 nyang, boiled dry in a bowl of vinegar, pounded in a stone mortar, pressed into cakes and dry-roasted on a new tile. Add white poria, angelica, ginseng, chuanxiong, cooked rehmannia and capital ink (calcined red and vinegar-quenched) 1 nyang each, and costus 5 don. Powder them, make pills with vinegar paste the size of a firmiana seed, and take seventy or eighty down with warm wine. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Po)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Samul-tang with ginseng and poria inside it, carried on a geun of cyperus and four nyang of mugwort — the two medicinals the chapter reaches for whenever the womb is to be warmed and the menses regulated. Ink is the unusual one. Pine-soot ink is carbon with animal glue, and calcining it red then quenching it in vinegar is the same processing the Jaundice chapter applies to iron filings at 5.4.5.8. What it was thought to do here is staunch — ink is the tradition's standing medicinal for bleeding that will not stop. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
