Translation

Treats wasting-thirst formed by devoted drinking. Coptis 3 nyang; dried raw rehmannia 2 nyang; cinnabar 1 nyang. Powder the above and bind with honey into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; swallow 30–50 pills with a decoction of rush pith and jujube. — Deukhyo 得效 (Donguibogam · Sogal)

Clinical commentary 臨床

For the drinker whose thirst keeps his heart awake — coptis puts out the fire, rehmannia refills what it burned, and the cinnabar coating was the era's way of telling the spirit the emergency was over. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
