Translation

Treats wind dryness with itching of the body. Clematis, lysimachia and sweet-grass half a geun each; dried lotus leaf, ligusticum, agastache, angelica dahurica and nardostachys 4 nyang each. Cut them up; take 4 nyang, boil in three buckets of water to a rolling boil several times, and bathe in it indoors, keeping out of draughts. — Danggye Simbeop 丹心 (Donguibogam · Pi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A bath, not a draught, and the whole formula is aromatic — six of the eight are fragrance drugs. Danggye pairs it with large doses of Samul-tang taken internally for itching that moves like crawling insects, which is read as blood too thin to moisten the skin: nourish from within, soften from without. The instruction to bathe indoors and keep out of draughts is the operative caution, since an open pore is how the wind got in. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
