Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治傷寒發熱ㆍ狂言譫語, 及差後熱不退ㆍ虛煩等證. 澤瀉ㆍ赤茯苓ㆍ猪苓ㆍ白朮各二錢半, 肉桂ㆍ辰砂各五分. 右細末, 每二錢, 沸湯點服. 《丹心》

Translation

Treats cold damage with fever, wild speech and delirium, and also fever that will not abate after recovery, depletion vexation and the like. Alisma, red poria, polyporus and atractylodes, 2 don 5 fun each; cinnamon bark and cinnabar, 5 fun each. Grind fine, and take 2 don infused in boiling water. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Han, lower)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Five-Ingredient Poria Powder with cinnabar added, and the logic is that delirium in a fever often comes with urine that has stopped — heat and water bound together below, with the spirit disturbed above. Drain the water and the heat goes with it. Cinnabar is the spirit-settling mineral the classics reached for, and it is mercuric sulphide: the small dose reflects that the compilers knew it was not harmless, but mercury accumulates and the drug should not be used.
