Clinical commentary 臨床

Six-to-One Powder — talc and licorice in the classic proportion — with cinnabar added, which is why the name says original qi: the base formula is the standard summerheat remedy that drains fire out through the urine without exhausting the patient. Adding cinnabar aims it at the spirit as well, for the delirium. The talc-to-licorice ratio of six to one is the whole point of the base and worth keeping; the cinnabar is not, being mercuric sulphide and cumulative. Taken in cool well water rather than a decoction, since nothing in it benefits from heating. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
