Translation

Treats lung heat. Ginseng, lycium root bark, bupleurum, raw rehmannia, and astragalus, 1.5 don each; anemarrhena and gypsum, 1 don each; red poria 5 fun. Cut the above, make one packet, add 3 slices of ginger, decoct and take. It also treats cold accumulated within the viscera with heat within the construction, the pulse insufficient when pressed and superabundant when lifted — this being Yang in surplus and Yin insufficient. — Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Hwa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The second indication is the interesting one — cold accumulated in the viscera with heat in the construction, recognized by a pulse that is insufficient when pressed and superabundant when the finger lifts. The chapter's gloss: Yang in surplus and Yin insufficient. Hence a formula that puts ginseng and astragalus beside gypsum and anemarrhena, which looks contradictory until you read the pulse description that justifies it. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
