Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治悲哀傷肝, 兩脇痛. 又治七情傷肝, 兩腋兩脇牽痛. 枳殼二錢, 細辛ㆍ桔梗ㆍ防風ㆍ川芎各一錢, 葛根七分, 甘草五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑三片, 棗二枚, 水煎服. 《本事》

Translation

Treats grief injuring the liver with pain in both flanks; also the seven affects injuring the liver with dragging pain in both armpits and flanks. Bitter orange 2 don; asarum, platycodon, saposhnikovia and chuanxiong 1 don each; pueraria 7 pun; licorice 5 pun. Cut up, make one packet, add 3 slices of ginger and 2 jujubes, decoct in water and take. — Bonsa 本事 (Donguibogam · Hyeop)

Clinical commentary 臨床

悲哀傷肝 — grief injuring the liver. The Bogam's usual assignment gives grief to the lung; the Bonsa puts it on the liver because the pain it makes is felt in the flank, where the liver channel runs.
