Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治冷喘. 蓽撥ㆍ胡椒ㆍ人參ㆍ胡桃肉 各等分. 右爲末, 蜜和, 兩作三十丸, 每一丸細嚼, 溫水下. 《類聚》

Translation

Treats cold panting. Long pepper, black pepper, ginseng and walnut flesh, in equal parts. Grind to a powder, mix with honey, and make thirty pills to the nyang; chew one fine each time and take it down with warm water. — Uibang Yuchwi 類聚 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Two peppers, ginseng and walnut, chewed rather than swallowed. Walnut for wheeze is a kidney-warming drug in this tradition and appears again in the 單方 list of this chapter; the peppers are there for immediate warmth. A chewed honey pill is the form for something to be taken when the wheeze starts rather than on a schedule. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
