Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治産後亡血, 榮衛虛損, 乍寒乍熱. 四物湯, 去熟地黃, 加人參ㆍ乾薑ㆍ甘草等分, 煎服. 《濟生》

Translation

Treats blood lost after delivery with the construction and defence vacuous and detrimented, now cold and now hot. Four Substances Decoction with the cooked rehmannia removed and ginseng, dry ginger and licorice added in equal parts, decocted and taken. — Jesaeng 濟生 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Taking the cooked rehmannia out is the point of the modification. It is the heaviest and most cloying of the four, and a woman whose spleen is weak after delivery cannot move it — so it goes and ginseng and dry ginger come in. 乍寒乍熱, now cold and now hot, is the sign of construction and defence out of step rather than of any fever. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
