Translation

Treats qi rising with panting cough. Aster down, schisandra, tangerine peel, perilla seed, apricot kernel, mulberry root bark, pinellia, bitter orange peel and licorice, 1 don each. Cut up, make one packet, add five slices of ginger and five perilla leaves, and decoct in water. — Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Nine drugs at one don each and every one of them aimed downward: perilla seed, apricot kernel, mulberry root bark and bitter orange to lower, pinellia and tangerine peel for the phlegm, aster down and schisandra to settle the cough. The evenness of the weights is itself the method — no drug leads, and the formula is a plain descending one for a cough that rises. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
