Translation

Realgar, abalone shell and sodium nitrate 1 nyang each; blue salt 5 don; honey three hop; three goat galls. Grind to a fine powder and steep it in the honey and gall juice for two days and nights; store in an earthen jar and dot it on three or four times a day. — Uibang Yuchwi 類聚 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Steeped two days and nights in honey and gall before use — a maceration rather than a grinding, which gets the salts into solution. Everything here is antiseptic in principle and the realgar is arsenic, which is the objection. **Contains realgar, an arsenic sulphide, placed on the eye. This must not be prepared.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
