Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治血少神勞腎虛眼病. 當歸ㆍ川芎ㆍ白芍藥ㆍ生地黃ㆍ熟地黃各一錢, 人參ㆍ䓀莄ㆍ梔子ㆍ黃連ㆍ白芷ㆍ蔓荊子ㆍ甘菊ㆍ甘草各五分. 右剉作一貼, 入細茶一撮ㆍ燈心一團, 水煎食後服. 《回春》

Translation

Treats eye disease from scant blood with taxed spirit and kidney vacuity. Korean angelica, chuanxiong, white peony, raw rehmannia and prepared rehmannia 1 don each; ginseng, platycodon, gardenia, coptis, angelica dahurica, vitex, chrysanthemum and licorice 5 pun each. Cut up as one packet, add a pinch of fine tea and a bundle of juncus, and decoct in water; take after food. — Manbyeong Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Samul-tang with both rehmannias and a light upper-body wind-and-heat group on top — the decoction counterpart to Jaeum-jihwang-hwan, for the same vacuity before it has gone as far as a dilated pupil. Tea and juncus as the vehicle are the Hoechun's touch: both lead heat downward through the urine, so the formula fills without leaving fire behind. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
