Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治天行病急黃, 及瘴瘧發黃. 茵蔯ㆍ梔子ㆍ大黃ㆍ芒硝各一兩, 杏仁六錢, 常山ㆍ鱉甲ㆍ巴豆霜各四錢, 豆豉二錢. 右爲末, 蒸餠和丸梧子大. 每三丸或五丸, 溫水呑下, 以吐利爲效. 《入門》得效方, 梔子元同, 卽今茵蔯丸也.

Translation

Treats epidemic disease with urgent jaundice, and miasmic malaria breaking out as jaundice. Virgate wormwood, gardenia, rhubarb and mirabilite 1 nyang each; apricot kernel 6 don; dichroa, turtle carapace and croton frost 4 don each; fermented soybean 2 don. Powder them, make pills with steamed cake the size of a firmiana seed, and take three or five down with warm water, taking vomiting and purging as the effect. The Deukhyo's Chija-won is the same, and is what is now called Injin-hwan. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Hwangdal)

Clinical commentary 臨床

天行疫癘, 亦能發黃, 謂之瘟黃, 殺人最急 — epidemic pestilence can also break out as yellowing; it is called epidemic jaundice, and it kills most swiftly of all. That is the section's opening line at 5.8, and it is the only place in these chapters where a jaundice is called swift. Acute viral hepatitis with fulminant course is what the description fits. The formula answers urgency with force: Injinho-tang with mirabilite, croton frost and dichroa added, dosed to vomiting and purging. **Contains croton frost and dichroa, both toxic; dichroa causes severe vomiting.
