Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治時氣發熱, 變爲黃疸, 所謂瘟黃. 葛根一錢半, 茵蔯ㆍ黃連(薑汁炒)ㆍ梔子(炒)ㆍ白朮ㆍ赤茯苓ㆍ白芍藥ㆍ厚朴ㆍ木通ㆍ人參各一錢, 木香七分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑三片, 水煎服. 《節齋》

Translation

Treats seasonal qi with fever turning into jaundice, what is called epidemic jaundice. Pueraria 1.5 don; virgate wormwood, coptis (ginger-juice fried), gardenia (stir-fried), white atractylodes, red poria, white peony, magnolia bark, akebia and ginseng 1 don each; costus 7 pun. Cut up, make one packet, add 3 slices of ginger, decoct in water and take. — Jeoljae 節齋 (Donguibogam · Hwangdal)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The milder of the two epidemic jaundice formulas, and the one with ginseng and white atractylodes in it. Where Jangdan-hwan attacks, this supports the centre while it clears — appropriate where the fever has already run some time and the patient is depleted. Frying the coptis in ginger juice and the gardenia dry are both moderating steps, taking the edge off two cold medicinals so they can be given over days. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
